Malware
Malware, short for malicious software, refers to any intrusive software developed by cybercriminals (often called hackers) to steal data and damage or destroy computers and computer systems. Examples of common malware include:
- Viruses: These are self-replicating programs that attach themselves to legitimate files and spread across systems.
- Worms: Worms are standalone programs that replicate and spread without needing a host file. They often exploit security vulnerabilities.
- Trojan viruses: These appear harmless but contain malicious code. They can steal sensitive information or provide unauthorized access to a system.
- Spyware: Spyware secretly monitors a user’s activities, collecting data without their knowledge.
- Adware: Adware displays unwanted advertisements, often bundled with legitimate software.
- Ransomware: Ransomware encrypts files and demands payment for decryption.
Malware can cause significant harm, including data theft, system disruption, and unauthorized access. Protecting your devices with security software is crucial to prevent malware infections
